Pleasing By Harry Styles Review: Five People Give Their Honest Review Of The Beauty And Skincare Pro

Another week, another celebrity beauty brand. This time, its Harry Styles's brand Pleasing, which makes sense – Harry is known for experimenting with nail shades and is no stranger to a touch of makeup on the red carpet. The debut edit of products combines skincare and makeup with a curated selection of nail polishes and two skincare products with a skin-enhancing finish.

Breaking down the binary nature of beauty, Pleasing's mission is to bring joyful experiences and products to all, finding inspiration in nature as well as the multitude of unique identities in the founder's life. While they may be starting with beauty, Harry has hinted that there is much more to come that will span into the lifestyle category and beyond.

“I wanted to find a way to explore more ideas and have more opportunities to collaborate with people who were inspiring me; that’s how Pleasing was born,” he said. "Starting the brand with beauty felt exciting because creating great products is a unique way to make people feel good.”

We asked five GLAMOUR staffers to put the products to the test and determine whether the brand did, in fact, live up to its name…

Product: Nail Polish in Inky Pearl from The Perfect Polish Set, £50

Review: To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of regular nail polish. It takes forever to dry and barely lasts 24 hours without chipping. However, Inky Pearl lured me in with its midnight blue hue, shimmery formula and fun, bubble-top bottle.

Aside from looking good, the bubble top also helped with application, giving me something to grip while painting, and the brush was a wide fan meaning it covered my entire nail in a single sweep. The first coat was streaky, but a second coat quickly rectified that and it dried faster than expected.

I was disappointed, however, that the mesmerising blue shimmer that I loved when looking at the bottle didn't translate onto my nails. On the nail, it looks flat and almost black, which wasn't particularly pleasing.

Review: I loved this little double-ended stick! It was very easy to use under the eyes – the metal roller ball is nice and cooling too, especially in the morning. It dries surprisingly fast so there's no need to rub it in, nor does it leave any residue.

This would actually be perfect for long haul flights when the plane air wreaks havoc on my skin and moisture is something I need to address. I like the way it leaves the skin looking, very subtle and makes a difference, at least for me!

Product: Perfect Pearl Nail Polish

Review: Straight off the bat, the packaging stole my heart. Can we talk about how the lid looks like a miniature planet? So cute! It's actually a lot easier to hold in your hand while applying than you might initially think, too, if you're concerned about how much control you'll have. I love a white nail polish and, while the colour is usually my go-to during the warmer months of the year, I was excited to try this shade as it's pearlescent (perfect for the festive season).

I've knocked a few points off due to being a bit disappointed by the pigment; I applied my usual two coats but I still found it to be streaky and not quite as opaque as I'd hoped. I think next time I'll use it as a chic, pearly top coat atop a darker hue. I've now had it on for two days AND washed my hair in between and it hasn't chipped once so, all in all, well done Mr Styles.

Product: The Pearlescent Illuminating Serum, £27

Review: When I heard that Harry Styles was coming out with a beauty line, my heart did a FLIP. Harry Styles can do no wrong in my eyes, so I was thrilled to give the Pearlescent Illuminating Serum a go. For starters, it is an absolute treat on the eyes: dreamy pastel green packaging with white and pink pearls which dissolve when you pump the product out, releasing a shimmery mica to give your skin all the glow.

I applied the serum after my skincare routine as a primer for the rest of my makeup, giving my base a subtle, healthy glow. I'm always wary of shimmery primers as I have oily skin and want to avoid too much shine (love glazed donuts, but don't always want to look like one), but found that the formula was lightweight enough that it didn't add excess shine in the wrong places. This has definitely earned a spot in my daily routine. Thank you, Harry.

Product: Granny’s Pink Pearls Nail Polish from The Perfect Polish Set, £50

Review: I wish I was one of those girls with perfectly manicured nails all year round, but unfortunately for me my nails are brittle and I don’t like waiting for my polish to dry – nail varnish just isn’t my thing. But I have to admit, I was very pleasantly surprised by the new Harry Styles “Pleasing” polish. The first coat went on smoothly and dried extremely quick (huge win for me)!

I was a little disappointed with the consistency of the second coat, which got clumpy really quickly. The colour also seemed uneven and you could see the brush strokes, which meant I had to layer on three fairly thick coats to achieve the beautiful opaque pink colour in the bottle. Despite this, my nails were touch dry within 5 mins and I didn’t end up with smudges or dents in my nails - very unlike the nail polish I normally use that gets sticky once layered. They were even pretty chip resistant throughout the few days I had the polish on for. If I can get salon smooth nails at home using this polish then I’m pretty sure anyone can!
