The brother of a violent and controlling convicted murderer who killed his 17-year-old pregnant ex-girlfriend in Oxfordshire has been jailed for perverting the course of justice.

Jake Blakeley, 18, unwittingly helped his brother Ben Blakeley bury Jayden Parkinson's body in fields near Upton and later in their uncle's grave in the cemetery in All Saints' Church, Didcot, following her murder in December 2013, Thames Valley Police said.

Ben Blakeley, 23, from Reading, Berkshire, was jailed for life last July at Oxford Crown Court and ordered to serve a minimum of 20 years after strangling Jayden in the countryside - 24 hours after she had told him she was expecting his child.

The former binman was obsessive and controlling and had threatened to post intimate videos and photographs of Jayden on Facebook after their break up, hoping she would kill herself as a result, his trial was told.

Jake Blakeley was originally tried alongside his brother for preventing a lawful burial but the jury of six men and six women was dismissed after failing to reach a verdict on the charge, a police spokesman said.

He was retried for the same offence earlier this year but the trial also resulted in a hung jury, he said.

But the teenager, from Didcot, had pleaded guilty in June last year to perverting the course of justice after he admitted helping his brother conceal Jayden's body.

He told officers that he believed he was he was burying weapons in the first hole, and a dead dog and cat in the second hole, a police spokesman said.

Jake Blakeley was jailed for three years when he appeared at Oxford Crown Court today.

Detective Inspector Craig Kirby said: ``Even unwittingly Jake Blakeley assisted his brother Ben to conceal Jayden's body after she was murdered, assistance which in the words of His Honour Judge Eccles 'prolonged the agony of Jayden's family'.

``I believe today's sentence reflects the severity of this.''

Mr Kirby also paid his respects to Jayden and thanked her family and friends who he said had ``shown immense courage throughout our investigation and subsequent trials''.

Adrian Foster, chief crown prosecutor for Thames and Chiltern Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), said: ``Ben Blakeley killed Jayden in remote countryside outside Didcot.

``With the assistance of his brother, Jake Blakeley, he dug a hole and concealed her body at this location for several days before moving it in a suitcase to the existing grave of a family member in the Didcot churchyard.

``There, Ben Blakeley and Jake Blakeley dug up the grave and Ben buried Jayden's body in it.

``At the plea and case management hearing last year, Jake Blakeley pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice.

``He accepted that he assisted his brother, but that at the time he helped him he had no idea that Ben had killed Jayden or that he was helping to bury her body.

``He asserted that he thought he was simply helping Ben to conceal a crime and not the killing.''

He continued: ``This case is a tragedy for Jayden's family and friends who have been devastated by her death; her father dying just before the first trial started.

``I would like to pay tribute to them for their wholehearted support of the investigation and prosecution and the dignity they displayed while hearing the horrific details surrounding Jayden's murder.''
