Actor Robert Arthur Dies at 83
Appeared in more than 35 films, hundreds of TV shows
Film and TV actor Robert Arthur died Oct. 1 of heart failure in Aberdeen, Wash. He was 83.
Arthur appeared in more than 35 features and numerous episodes of TV shows.
After working in radio and serving in the Navy, he moved to Hollywood, where his first role was as Rosalind Russell’s son in “Roughly Speaking” in 1945. He soon was signed to a studio contract with Warners and appeared in films including “Too Young to Know,” “Night and Day” and “Nora Prentiss.”
Moving over to Fox, he had his first lead in “Green Grass of Wyoming,” and then appeared in “Twelve O’Clock High,” “Yellow Sky” and “Mother Is a Freshman.” He appeared with Bing Crosby in “Just for You,” and with Ronald Reagan in “Hellcats of the Navy.”
In the early days of television, he appeared on shows including “Lone Ranger” and “Frontier Doctor.” One of his final roles was in the 1961 film “Wild Youth,” before he decided to leave show business.
Arthur then went into business and became active in causes including founding Project Rainbow and co-founding the Log Cabin Club. In later years, he taught acting, worked as a casting associate and returned to appearing in films and TV shows, including “Skin Deep” and “Full House.”
